The University offers Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) giving freedom to the students to choose his/her optional courses. CBCS is a cafeteria approach envisaged by University Grants Commission (UGC) to provide students and teachers horizontal and vertical mobility and to design his / her own programme of study with courses of his / her choice. Sangai International University Manipur has been established in Manipur by an Act of State Legislature under self finance mode, which received the assent of His Excellency the Governor of Manipur and published in the Manipur gazette with vide. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded the university as a state private university, in accordance with the provisions contained in the University Grant Commission Act, 1956 and empowered to award degrees in terms of section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956. The Board of Governors is the Governing Body of the University and members of “Board of Governors” includes industrialists, academicians and representative of the State Government as per the Sangai International University Manipur Act, 2014.

About the headquarter

Churachandpur is a district located in the south-western corner of the Indian state of Manipur which covers an area of 4,750 kilometres, the district is also locally known as Lamka. The city of less than 4 lakhs people has commercial roots and is located 60 km south of the capital Imphal.

As per the 2011 census, Churachandpur district had a population of 271,274, roughly equal to that of Barbados. This gives it a ranking of 575th in India (out of a total of 640 districts).The district has a population density of 59 inhabitants per square kilometre (150/sq mi). Its population growth rate over the decade 2001–2011 was 19.03%. Churachandpur has a sex ratio of 969 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 84.29%.

The town is easily accessible from the capital city of Imphal which is connected via airport, railways and road with the rest of the country. Air services are available from Imphal to Guwahati (Assam), Delhi and the nearest metro Kolkata. Daily Indian Airlines flights are available to the Indian capital Delhi. Nearest railway station is Dimapur, which is around 200 km from Imphal. Imphal is also connected to Dimapur by NH39.
